July 2018 | Norman, Oklahoma – Daniel C. Sloat, a dual degree JD / MBA candidate at the Price College of Business and the OU College of Law, was awarded the inaugural RealFoundations Renée Moorad Memorial MBA Scholarship for the 2017-18 academic year.
RealFoundations established the Endowed Scholarship Fund in 2016 to honor former co-worker and OU Sooner Renée Moorad, a dedicated student, loyal employee, and an American-Arab activist with a passion for justice and equality. A legal scholar, she was a champion for civil rights as a member of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee.
Dan also exhibits a passion for justice and equality: he is a research analyst for the Center for International Business & Human Rights, a vocal advocate for establishing a Certificate in International Law and a co-founder of the International Law section of the Oklahoma Bar Association.
Before returning to school, Dan served as a Captain in the United States Air Force with three deployments abroad. Captain Sloat worked as a Liaison Officer helping to orchestrate the first Humanitarian relief mission of Operation Inherent Resolve. The team provided food, water, and shelter to thousands of religious-minority refugees who had been ousted from their homes in Syria. It was during this exact same time and on these very people’s behalf that Renee was fighting for religious tolerance and freedom from persecution.
