January 2015 | Reston, VA – The 2015 Nareit® Leader in the Light Working Forum was held at the Hyatt Regency in Reston, VA January 21-22, 2015. The Working Forum is a hands-on collaborative workshop that provides Nareit corporate members the opportunity to advance the sustainability conversation and to better understand leading sustainability practices among their peers. Over 75 attendees representing a cross-section of the real estate industry, including 38 from Nareit corporate member organizations, participated in the event.
The agenda for this year’s Working Forum reflected the prominence that “Capital’s Perspective” is gaining in the area of sustainability in real estate. Several respected speakers and panel members, representing Calvert Investments, Deutsche Bank, BAML (Bank of America Merrill Lynch), Bloomberg L.P., GRESB (Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark), SASB (Sustainability Accounting Standards Board), DoE (Department of Energy), Carbon War Room and IMT (Institute for Market Transformation) discussed a wide range of topics, including SRI Capital, Green Bonds, Sustainability Reporting, etc. Several Nareit corporate members, such as Vornado, Regency and Deutsche Asset & Wealth Management shared their perspectives as well. And, as is the norm at the Working Forums, every discussion had its fair share of audience participation—making it one of the most successful gatherings of sustainability leaders from the real estate industry. Sheldon Groner, Nareit’s EVP of Finance and Operations, termed the event a “resounding success.”
