July 2011— Continuing a tradition that began almost a decade ago, members of the Dallas RealFoundations (‘RF’) office spent Friday, July 29, 2011 preparing and serving meals at the local Ronald McDonald House (‘RMH’).
RMH serves as a home-away-from-home for families with children receiving treatment at local area hospitals for a serious illness or injury. The organization provides a place to stay for little or no cost, serves the entire family three meals a day and provides a host of additional services and activities. There are currently 307 Ronald McDonald Houses in 30 countries and regions – providing over 7,200 bedrooms to families around the world each night, saving them over $257 million in hotel costs.
The RealFoundations team volunteers twice each year – preparing over 100 meals each day between lunch and dinner for resident families.
Mac Irwin, a Director at RF and long-time organizer and executive chef of the event, enjoys the camaraderie fostered in preparing meals on such a large scale and the impact something as simple as a home-cooked meal can have on a family during a stressful time in their lives. “The appreciation the families show is incredible,” he said. “We get so much more out of the experience than we give.”
